GE Lighting has announced new features for the C by GE series, including wireless dimmers, wireless motion sensors, and smart switches. None of the series requires a hub to connect to the Internet.
According to GE, the new hubless smart switches and two hubless battery-powered dimmer models are industry firsts. They don’t need a product like a hub to integrate with Google Assistant or Alexa for voice control.
This smart switch is smaller than a standard American light switch, so it has better compatibility and easier installation. And they come with optional accessories to minimize lamp ghosting and flicker.
The wireless dimmer controls the C by GE series of smart bulbs, which can be fixed to the wall with adhesive tape. This feature provides consumers with an easy way to add extra locations to control room lighting and enable them to avoid using wires at home.
GE said that wireless motion sensors and wireless remote control products will be sold with dimmers sometime in 2020, side by side with existing C by GE bulbs and controllers.
GE also announced that it has updated its C by GE mobile app to support all new and existing switches, bulbs and plugs. In addition, it will open the C by GE mobile app this year to select third-party manufacturers. Just a few years ago, GE introduced C-Sleep, a Bluetooth smart light bulb that can automatically change its color temperature throughout the day to suit outdoor environmental tones. Subsequently, it expanded the C by GE lighting product series with C-Reach in November 2017. The C-Reach Control Center allows C by GE smart bulbs to connect to Wi-Fi and can be further controlled by Alexa, Google Assistant or HomeKit . Before the CES show last year, the first colored light bulbs and smart switches in the series were introduced. They do not need to be connected to a hub, but can be controlled through Bluetooth and the corresponding mobile phone app.
